Meet Grover and Betty Smith

Members of Holiday Mountain Resort

Hello to all the members of the Holiday Mountain Resort. We are Grover and Betty Smith of Benton, Arkansas and have been members of the Holiday Mountain Resort since we joined September 12, 1991. It was one of the best things we ever did. We have thoroughly enjoyed our membership and the camping at the resort. Betty and I don't get to camp out as much as we would like to but when we do we like to go up the creek to the White River and back in the pirogue (canoe) that is furnished at the resort. We also like the entertainment and potlucks they have on the weekends. Betty and I like to dance and we also like to play for dances. We are members of the Arkansas Country Dance Society. Besides traditional music we like to play cajun music and we are called The Bon Temps Cajun Band and we do a lot of playing in front of our trailer while at the camp grounds and invite every one to stop and listen to the music and if you play an instrument to come and jam with us. See you soon.

Bon Temps Cajun Band

The Bon Temps (Good Times) Cajun Band is made up of Grover and Betty Smith of Benton, Arkansas. They moved to Benton in 1974 returning to the birthplace of Grover's grandfather, born in 1884. The log cabin still stands today inside a house on Hwy. 5, in Benton. They both have been playing or singing music since they were very young. Grover played with the Arkansas Country Dance Society since 1985 and was President of the ACDS in 2001-2002. Grover has played an assortment of instruments since the age of 8 and has played with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and various bands throughout the years. He has performed at Six Flags Over Texas at Arlington, TX; Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO; The Ozark Folk Center at Mountain View, AR; Riverfest at Little Rock, AR and the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival at Sedalia, MO. He has also played for Scottish Dances at Batesville, Dallas, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville and Atlanta. Betty has played the piano and sang in school and church choirs since grade school. She is also an accomplished Clogger and Jig dancer and has performed at various locations, where Grover was playing. While performing at Silver Dollar City, during the Old Fashion Folk Music Week, they heard the Cajun Connection Band from Louisiana and fell in love with Cajun music and dance. Grover will be playing the fiddle and Betty will play the concertina and Cajun accordian as they present both traditional Ozark and Cajun folk music.
